Frequently Asked Questions

What should we pack?
We have created a helpful packing list for you to use and checkoff as you go. Download What to Bring/Packing List. Please be sure to not send your camper with any of the prohibited items. Bags will be checked by counselor and staff as they arrive and any prohibited items found will be confiscated and child may be sent home.

Do you allow electronic devices at camp?
No, we are UNPLUGGED! It is our belief that it is best for children to engage fully in the camp experience by not having access to technology. This allows your child time to participate and communicate with camp and one another. Any electronic device found will be confiscated and be considered a strike on the discipline policy.

My child lost/forgot an item. What should I do?
Youth Helpers is not responsible for any items lost, misplaced, stolen or forgotten. So do not bring any items up that cannot be replaced. Please LABEL all items your camper brings up. If your camper has lost/forgotten an item, you can contact Youth Helpers at 855-888-8660 to see if it has been found by staff and you can them coordinate a time to pick up the item. Youth Helpers will hold all found items for 7 days.

How many pieces of luggage can my child bring?
Your child is permitted to bring two pieces of luggage and bedding. Please LABEL all items with your child’s name.

What is the weather like at Camp?
During the day at Camp, the average temperature is usually 75-85 degrees; nights cool down and can drop into the 40’s so we strongly recommend a jacket for nights.

What are accommodations like at camp?
You will be staying in group cabins of approx. 6-10 students per cabin. Each cabin has bunk beds, and full bathrooms. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, and pillow for sleeping. You will also need a towel and toiletries for the bathroom (soap, shampoo, towels, etc. are not provided)

Where is camp located?
Camp is located at 49150 Hwy38 Angelus Oaks, CA 92305. If driving up the “back way” to Big Bear (up Hwy 38) we are a few miles past Jenks Lake toward Big Bear.

What if someone backs out? Do I get their deposit back or can I transfer it to the remaining balance?
Unfortunately, no refunds are made after registration as we have held that spot for your child. However, you can replace that person with someone else and transfer their deposit to the other person.

Will I be able to add to my group total?
As long as there is space available. If there isn’t space available, we can always put them down on a waiting list.

What is the age limit for program camp?
Campers need to be at least 7 yrs. to 14 years old. Campers are grouped by age and gender for cabin assignment and some lecture time. College students are welcome to attend as chaperones if proper paperwork is filled out in time.

What about Day Campers?
Unfortunately, we cannot take day campers. Any person desiring to come to camp must have a chaperone and has to participate in the entire week.

What if someone in my group has special needs?
At this time Laurel Pines is not set up to accommodate students with special needs.

What are your rules and discipline policy?
Youth Helpers is committed to a safe camp for all campers, and staff members. We have developed three strikes discipline policy that all campers must adhere to and parents and campers must sign. It is our intent to work with every camper to have a fun and safe time at camp. Download Rules and Policies
